Founded in 2002, the Wake Forest High School Cougar Battalion was first led by Colonel Leslie Carlow SAI and Sergeant First Class James Hylton. Since then, the Cougar Battalion has grown to around 100 cadets in total under the command of CSM Cribb and Colonel Joyner. Presenting with the covenant "Honor Unit with Distinction" Unit insignia, being a member of the Cougar Battalion is an honor and a privilege to all those who choose to participate.

What is JROTC?

JROTC stands for  Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps. It is a leadership-focused training course that is designed to teach students how to become better citizens.

Here in JROTC, We pride ourselves in teaching our cadets leadership, responsibility, Organization, listening skills, and other essential qualities a leader needs to be effective in school and in the work place.

In addition to providing essential leadership skills, we instill decent human qualities in our cadets through the teaching of Army Values, which are loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage (LDRSHIP).

Am I required to join the Military after JROTC?

Service in the military after JROTC is not required. JROTC is not an army prepatory class, rather we instill Army Values in to each and every one of our cadets. Our job is not to train cadets for the Military or to enlist cadets into the military, however JROTC would greatly benefit those who are interested in serving in the military after high school.

How can I learn more?
